Recently, Google opened a public Kernel repository which is marked as experimental 3.8 Linux kernel for Android. This repository is built from standard Linux kernel, with Android addition by the folks in Mountain View working on the Android project.

No plans for the roll out of 3.8 as they are still working on 3.0, 3.3 and 3.4 versions of the Linux kernel. They will soon ship the 3.0 kernel with the Jelly Bean. It is also expected that in coming months Google will release Android 5.0 "key lime pie" which is the Linux 3.8 kernel on Android.

It also came to know that Google developers are working on Android 3.8 kernel and hope we will see it soon.
