Apple has already bought three tracts of land in preparation for its expansion in Austin, Texas, according to the Austin Business Journal. The real estate is in the Milwood Section 20 subdivision near West Parmer and Delcour, next to Apple's existing Austin campus, situated at Riata Vista Circle. A deal between Apple and McShane Development is said to have been finalized on June 20th, although the price paid and the square footage involved haven't been made public.
In all Apple's expansion is expected to cost it about $304 million, and add more than 3,600 jobs to the city over time. In exchange, the company has received handouts from state and local government. Apple has promised to pay an average $35,000 salary for the bottom 10 percent of workers at the new facility, with a separate $11-per-hour minimum applying to contractors.
Austin is just one of a handful of cities outside of Cupertino where the company has a substantial presence. Apple's main European offices, for instance, are located in Cork, Ireland. The current Austin facilities cope mainly with tasks like customer support and sales.
