BlackBerry app world hits 3 billion downloads

After going through some rough times, Research in Motion finally has some good news to share. BlackBerry App World has reached the 3 billion download mark, with 1 billion downloads in the past six months. These downloads includes apps downloaded on BlackBerry smartphone and its PlayBoook tablet.

Announcing via company's developer blog, Victoria B., spokesperson of Research in Motion said, "On average, 2.5 million apps are being downloaded from Blackberry App World each day. What's even more important and impressive is that the number of daily downloads continues to increase," she continued. "It took 786 days to reach the one billion mark, 210 days to reach two billion, and only 176 days to reach the three billion number."

The company also clarified that these numbers neither include apps downloaded from third party BlackBerry app stores nor those pushed internally at companies around the world. And not even those downloaded directly from the web.

Blackberry App World is currently offering 90,000 apps to its users. This may not be comparable to Apple's App Store which features 650,000 apps or the Google Play store offering 600,000 apps, but it's definitely worth paying attention.

With BlackBerry10 devices due to launch next year, the Ontario-based mobile maker needs to sustain app developers if it seeks to increase these figures consistently.
