HTC Thunderbolt Official Android 4.0 ROM Leaked

The official Android 4.0 ROM for the HTC Thunderbolt has been leaked by Team BAMF on their forum page. The Thunderbolt was the first LTE smartphone on Verizon’s network, but sadly that wasn’t enough to make it a success. The device was plagued with an array of problems which made it a pain for early buyers. But for users who are still using the device, good news awaits. Although the official OTA update from HTC and Verizon is still a few days away, users can flash this ROM to experience the new Sense UI and a revamped version of Android ahead of the official release.

This of course means you have to flash the ROM available from the forum, so it is important to know how to do it before going forward. The ROM has Sense 3.6 and the build number 7.00.605.2. Users are reporting that the ROM takes a while to download, as there are massive amounts of users downloading ROM simultaneously. So keep an eye out for mirrors in the BAMF forum. The official arrival date of this ROM is still not known, so if you’re the impatient type, we advise you to download and flash the ROM onto your Thunderbolt right away. Users will see a few changes in terms of usability and fluidity of the UI, thanks to Android 4.0 and the HTC Sense 3.6. The ROM has been rooted as you would imagine, and doesn’t include HTC bloatware which is a major plus point. Backing up your data would be a wise thing to do, as there is a possibility of losing them permanently during the flashing.

The leak couldn’t have come at a better time for HTC Thunderbolt users as the device is currently running on Android 2.3 Gingerbread, which is unfair given the star status of the smartphone. This is yet another example of carriers/manufacturers taking older devices for granted as soon as newer smartphones hit the shelves. However, it is great news that the company hasn’t forgotten the Thunderbolt and it is hoped that the battery issues are sorted out with the update.
