Just like its Verizon and Sprint Galaxy Nexus brethren, the Sprint Nexus S 4G is still without a Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update release date.
The wait for the Nexus S 4G Jelly Bean update continues, just like the wait for a single piece of information from Sprint’s end about the update. Thus far, owners of the aging smartphone have been left in the dark, even as the device has seen its binaries deposited into the the AOSP (Android Open Source Project) and while other Nexus S devices have received the update.
It has been almost two weeks since the Nexus S 4G binaries were put into the AOSP and It has been nearly a month since Google started rolling out Android 4.1 Jelly Bean to Nexus S devices around the world.
In that time, Sprint has decided to remain mum about its plans for the Nexus S 4G Jelly Bean update, leaving owners to wonder when the update is going to arrive.
And earlier today, Nexus S 4G owners may have seen the unfortunate news. The Samsung Galaxy S III, a device that wasn’t a part of the first batch of devices slated to get the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update, may get its update on August 29th. That hasn’t been confirmed by Samsung but a Q3 update has already been rumored and we’ve been told to expect it sooner than later.
We’ve talked to several Nexus S 4G owners who have expressed frustration with the situation in regards to Google’s announcement back in July and the subsequent wait for the update.
None of them expressed much surprise as they are used to the silence and long wait times displayed by American carriers but the ordeal has frustrated nonetheless.
A few also said that they are remaining patient, patience made easier because of the fact that the Nexus S 4G is an aging device.
That however, is not something that Galaxy Nexus owners here in the United States can take solace in as the Galaxy Nexus is the latest and greatest Nexus phone.
In any event, we now sit a month removed from the initial Android 4.1 Jelly Bean roll out and not a single American carrier has unleashed the update to any of its Nexus devices.
And not to throw fuel on the fire but it took four months for the Nexus S 4G to get Ice Cream Sandwich. Hopefully, that doesn’t happen this time around.
