Acer is not really a big name when it comes to smartphones, although the company does test the market with handsets like the high-end CloudMobile, or more affordable devices like the Liquid Gallant and Liquid Glow.
For 2013, it looks like Acer is planning to release only (or at least?) six new handsets. One of them will run Windows Phone 8 – which means Acer will be a bit late to the WP8 party, with Samsung, Nokia and HTC all getting ready to launch smartphones based on Microsoft’s new OS this year.
According to DigiTimes, Acer will use a Qualcomm dual-core CPU for its high-end handsets, and chips from MediaTek for entry-level devices. The company will try to strengthen sales in Europe, and target emerging Asian markets (like India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and – of course – China).
There are no specific details on what Acer’s first Windows Phone 8 handset will bring. But we’ll see, right?
