Apple iPhone Launch Updates: New iPods May Debut at Event

We’ve long heard that Apple may not just be announcing the iPhone 5 on September 12. Some previous rumors have told us that the iPad mini could be unveiled on the 12th, while others have suggested that the iPod nano may undergo a revamp and be first seen in that event.

As the supposed iPad mini launch looks quite unlikely following new reports that it will be launched instead in October, all eyes are now on Apple’s iPod line – will the nano and other iPods be remade and revealed on September 12 in San Francisco?

9to5Mac reported this week that while their sources are claiming the new iPods will be seen at the launch event, “details are currently scarce.” Right now, we don’t know what Apple will be changing up on the next-gen music players, but according to the above tech site, there may be two or three iPod varieties being updated for 2012.

The new iPod rumors had actually started as early as July, when Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities revealed forecasts for Apple’s roadmap for the second half of 2012.

According to Kuo, new versions of the iPod touch and iPod nano would kick off the announcements and releases; these new iPods, said the analyst, would come with in-cell touch technology for its display panels.

Kuo has been quite accurate in predicting future Apple releases, and while he may have miffed on the iPods being first in line, it won’t be surprising if we see a few new iPods debuting at the same time as the iPhone 5.
