Lumia series is the new high end series launched by Nokia on 26 October 2011 at Nokia World Event 2011. Nokia Lumia 800 is the first smartphone of this series featuring Windows. It’s showing the major shift of Nokia on Windows in high end series. Nokia N9 based on Meego OS was the predecessor of Nokia Lumia 800. Although the exterior of Nokia Lumia 800 is same as N9 have except the one additional button added for camera on right side and a dual Led flash placed exact above the Carl Ziess camera lens. Although they have same exterior but not possess the same interior, the Lumia 800 chipset come from Qualcomm whereas the N9 have the one by Texas Instruments.
Like N9 it has curved convex Gorilla Glass AMOLED screen with anti-glare filter. Lumia 800 has 3.7 Inch screen as compared to N9 having 3.9 inch, it was mainly due to reach the windows phone specification. Three soft capacitive keys are included below the glass. A unibody shell is made from polycarbonate plastic.
Lumia 800 comes with four Nokia apps not provided by Windows OS, which are: Nokia drive ( a free navigation system), Nokia maps, Nokia Music, In addition Microsoft added Office 365. The files can be stored on sky drive. Although this smartphone was made by Nokia in collaboration with Microsoft still it lacks some functionality. In addition to the pre-installed apps you can install more apps from Windows Phone Market place, it also contains the Nokia collection as well.
Nokia announced on January 26, 2012 that they have sold over one million device to date, better than what expected.
European Carriers declared that Lumia series is not so competitive to compete with other leading high end phone like i-phone , galaxy s3, htc one x. Even they have said that no one comes to buy the Windows Phone. They also said that Lumia 800 is overpriced for what it have.
Lumia 800 won editor Choice award 2011 from what mobile magazine they rated it 5/5.
Nokia Lumia Major Problems:
On screen keyboard is disappearing during typing.
Sound quality problem is claimed
In December 2011 it was complained that Lumia 800 is not using full capacity of battery.
