The first stable release of the CyanogenMod 9 custom Android ROM for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus has been made available for download on the project's site, notes Android Central. The build, designed for the "maguro" GSM version of the device, provides a largely stock Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich experience, while adding features such as lock screen gestures, themes, and a DSP equalizer.
But it took a long time for the CyanogenMod team to make the transition to Android 4.0 since the code is so dramatically different than that for Android 2.3. The move from Android 4.0 to Android 4.1 is expected to happen much more quickly, and CyanogenMod 10 is already under development.
