ICS for GSM Motorola RAZR and RAZR MAXX pushing out to 'select users'

While American owners of the Motorola RAZR and RAZR MAXX received their Ice Cream Sandwich updates in June, owners of the GSM versions of the RAZR and RAZR MAXX have begun to see their updates roll out with a broader update apparently scheduled for next week.

Both GSMArena and Android Central are reporting that the GSM models, that means international models of the RAZR and RAZR MAXX have begun rolling out. However, it appears that the roll out is not widespread and is instead rolling out to ‘select users’ at this time.

Motorola has reportedly said that a broader roll out to all users will begin next week. So, it would appear that the devices are undergoing a soak test for the Ice Cream Sandwich update.
So, if everything goes according to plan, the update should roll out on a broad scale next week.

The updates will bring along all of the goodness of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. So, that means that the devices will get the new UI, Face Unlock, the improved browser, the updated Gmail application and more.

These pieces of software will also likely bring a number of bug fixes and enhancements along with them as well. It’s also possible that they will hatch some new bugs as well.

The Verizon models, the Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX, both received a number of bugs courtesy of their Ice Cream Sandwich updates. It’s possible that the GSM models will be immune to those but only time will tell at this point.

So, those who own these devices should be on the lookout for the software in the coming days and we’ll be on the lookout for any more official details that Motorola is able to provide to owners about the upgrades to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
