Hyundai enters Russian market with tablets





Hyundai, a multinational conglomerate headquartered in Seoul, is getting serious about Android tablets. Hyundai is planning to launch three new Android tablets with 7”, 9.7” and 10.1” displays in Russia.




With Hyundai planning to enter the electronics space, it is aiming to capture 7-8% of the Russian market in next three years, which is a bit ambitious. The company is planning to sell 200,000 tablets in the first year, which is possible given the brand’s awareness.







he tablets won’t be offering anything extra ordinary, but it won’t be a ‘me too’ offering either. At the price point it is being offered, one cannot ask for anything more. The cheapest tablet from the stable is Hyundai HT-7B, which comes with 7” 1024×600 display, 1GB of RAM, Wi-Fi, GPS, 2 MP front facing camera, 0.3 MP rear facing camera, 8GB built-in storage, 4000 mAh battery, 1GHz Samsung CPU. This tablet will come with a price tag of 7000 Russian Roubles, which roughly converts to $180. The device will be marketed as an alternative to reader devices like Amazon’s Kindle. Same tablet will also be made available with a built in 3G modem and Navitel navigation system, and comes at a premium of 1000 Roubles at 8000 Roubles, which converts to $207. It will be called as Hyundai HT-7G and is proposed to be used as a navigator device.






The second model is Hyundai HT-9B. It is equipped with 9.7” 1024×768 IPS display, 1.2 GHz Cortex A8 CPU, Mali-400 GPU, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, 2 MP rear facing camera, 0.3 MP front facing camera, GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB 2.0 ports, HDMI port and 5600 mAh battery packed in an aesthetic fully metallic body. Hyundai HT-9B will be retailing at $270. Also, an optional dock with keyboard will be available for purchase. The 5600mAh battery will deliver 6 hours of continuous browsing over 3G networks. When coupled with the optional keyboard, it transforms into a small notebook.




The third and last offering is Hyundai HT-10B. This tablet comes with 10.1” 1024×600 display, 1.2 GHz Cortex A8 CPU, Mali-400 GPU, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, 2 MP rear facing camera, 0.3 MP front facing camera, built-in 3G, GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB 2.0 ports, HDMI port and a large 5600 mAh battery. This device will retail for $311.




All these devices will be running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. By the end of year, Hyundai will be releasing another version of HT-10B tablet, known as HT-10K, with the only difference being the pre installed software. Hyundai HT-10K will come with learning software for children pre-installed.
