Microsoft acquires Perceptive Pixel, eyes unique touchscreen tech for Windows 8

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer announced on Monday during the company’s Worldwide Partner Conference keynote that Microsoft has acquired touchscreen technology company Perceptive Pixel. The company’s advanced touchscreen technology will open the door for a wide range of new functionality on Windows 8-powered devices. “I founded Perceptive Pixel with a mission to see how advanced technology can benefit the worker and help the worker get real work done,” Perceptive Pixel founder and CTO Jeff Han said on stage during Microsoft’s keynote. Perceptive Pixel’s website describes the company as “a recognized leader in interaction design, having pioneered the research, development and production of high-performance multi-touch platforms.” The terms of the deal were not disclosed. Microsoft announced earlier on Monday that its Windows 8 operating system will launch in October
