Motorola Atrix HD Review: First Impressions

Motorola has announced two new Android smartphones today: the long-rumored Atrix HD (also known as Dinara, or Atrix 3), and the Razr V.

The Atrix HD will be released both in the US (via AT&T), and in Canada (via Bell, under the name of Atrix HD LTE).

AT&T will sell the new Atrix starting July 15 (this Sunday), for only $99.99 on contract. As previously reported, the handset runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, and it will likely be updated to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean later this year.

It comes with a 4.5-inch ColourBoost display (1280 x 720 pixels), LTE connectivity, HSPA, Wi-Fi Direct, A-GPS, eCompass, Bluetooth 4.0, SmartActions (an app that “suggests ways to automatically change your phone’s settings throughout the day to make your life easier”), HDMI, 8MP rear camera with zero shutter lag and 1080p video recording at 30fps, 1.3MP front-facing camera, 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal memory, MicroSD card support, 1,780 mAh battery, and Kevlar fiber on the back. The phone weighs 140 grams, and measures 133.5 x 69.9 x 8.4 mm.

The Atrix HD is already featured at AT&T’s official website here (in case you are wondering, pre-orders are not available yet).

Bell didn’t say exactly when its Atrix HD LTE would hit the shelves, but it should happen “this summer.” You can check out the Canadian carrier’s Atrix HD LTE here. Most probably, Bell will also sell the handset for $99.99 on contract.

The second new Motorola handset unveiled today – the Razr V – is a slightly updated version of the original Razr. It’s also just 8.4mm thin, and run Android 4.0 ICS. Its features include a 4.3 inch ColourBoost qHD display, HSPA, Wi-Fi, GPS, SmartActions, 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, Kevlar coating, 8MP rear camera, front-facing camera, and MicroSD card support. Here is what the Razr V looks like:

Interestingly, the Motorola Razr V will be out in Canada via Bell, too. Customers will also find it at Videotron, Virgin Mobile, Wind Mobile, Best Buy, Future Shop, Tbooth Wireless, The Mobile Shop, and The Source. According to Motorola, the Razr V will debut in Canada in the third quarter of the year. Its price hasn’t been disclosed.
