U.S court rejects Samsung’s request to lift Galaxy Tab 10.1 ban

Judge Lucy Koh of the U.S. District Court in California yesterday rejected Samsung's request to lift the injunction on the Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet. The ban was put in place on June 26, ahead of the trial between Apple and Samsung over alleged trade dress infringement.

The judge did not rule on Samsung's request to lift the ban on the Google Galaxy Nexus smartphone produced by Samsung, which was ordered late last week. The trial between Apple and Samsung is due to start on July 30.

Samsung released a statement on the court's decision:

"Samsung is disappointed with the court's decision that denied our motion to stay. We believe today's ruling will ultimately reduce the availability of superior technological features to consumers in the United States."

This ruling marks the third decision that Samsung has lost in the past week. Apple has accused Samsung of "slavishly copying" its smartphone and tablet designs, right down to the packaging for the devices. Apple is also looking to get an injunction against the Galaxy S III smartphone, but the court has not yet banned that particular device.
