The Huawei Ascend D1 Quad promised to be the world’s fastest smartphone when Huawei announced it in February. Back then, the Huawei-branded quad-core processor with a clock speed of 1.2GHz or 1.5GHz that it was believed to sport would have allowed it to stand out from among the many smartphones running on a dual-core processor. The device was scheduled to be released during the second quarter of this year. That time has come and gone, however, and now, the third quarter is about to end but still the Huawei Ascend D1 Quad has not been launched.
During IFA 2012 in Berlin, Germany, however, Huawei finally brought out the device, which it is now calling the Ascend D1 Quad XL. The smartphone boasts of a 1.2GHz quad-core Huawei K3V2 Processor and 8B of internal storage. The phone also comes with a microSD card slot that would enable users to add more storage.
For its screen, it features a large display measuring 4.5 inches diagonally. This screen is of the IPS+ LCD type, which some might recognize as the same technology that Apple uses on the iPad. Furthermore, the smartphone comes with an 8-megapixel rear camera that allows for recording videos in full 1080p quality. This camera is complemented by a 1.3-megapixel front-facing snapper.
To make the experience unique, Huawei has added some customizations to the user interface of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system. The device is also powered by a 2,600 mAh battery which reportedly can give users up to 500 hours of standby time thanks to a battery-saving feature that Huawei had included.
The device is slated to launch in China. It is expected to be priced at 2699 Yuan, or around US$425. All in all, the device looks like a pretty nice package, and would be competitive against devices like the Samsung Galaxy S III. Still, it would have been more impressive if Huawei released this earlier, when other companies have not launched smartphones with similar specifications yet.
