Sony has denied reports that its 2011 Xperia line-up won't be updated to Android 4.1, saying that it's currently testing Jelly Bean for its older smartphones.
Last week, a Sony spokesperson revealed on Facebook that the firm's 2011 smartphone line-up, including phones such as the Xperia Arc S and Xperia Mini Pro, wouldn't be getting updated to Google's latest operating system.
However, Sony has now said that information was given out in error, adding that it's testing Android 4.1 Jelly Bean for its 2011 Xperia handsets.
It said, "During a Q&A session last week on our Sony Mobile GB Facebook page, a local spokesperson gave information out in error on our Android 4.1 Jelly Bean software development and rollout for 2011 Xperia smartphones.
"We are actively investigating Android OS upgrades for all devices, but in the meantime, our Ice Cream Sandwich rollout for Xperia S and 2011 Xperia smartphones continues as planned."
While this doesn't confirm that Sony will be bringing the updates to its older smartphones, it's certainly looking a bit more positive than last week's comments.
Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, which was announced at the Google I/O Conference last month, brings a number of new features to the Android operating system. These include Project Butter, Google Now a redesigned user interface and deeper Google Play integration. µ
