Samsung Galaxy S3 sales set to hit 10 million in July

Samsung expects its flagship S3 Android device to break the 10 million global sales mark in July, as the firm continues to assert its dominance in the mobile market.

The S3 has built on the solid foundation laid down by its predecessor, the Galaxy S2, which received rave reviews and racked up 20 million sales in 10 months.

Samsung's mobile division has been booming despite the tough economic conditions and stiff competition from Apple and high-profile Android manufacturers such as HTC.

Between January and March, Samsung sold a total of 44.5 million smartphones giving it 30.6 per cent market share and generating $3.6 billion in profit.

Second quarter earnings are expected to be boosted significantly due to the success of the S3, according to J.K. Shin, head of the mobile communications division at Samsung.

The Galaxy S3 received the coveted 6-stars from IT Pro. Samsung beefed up the feature-set of the S3 considerably. Standout features of the Galaxy S3 included the 4.8in Super AMOLED screen, quad-core processor, as well as a raft of gesture-based features and an unequaled battery life.

With Samsung also planning to launch an enterprise version of the handset in July, it is likely to become even more appealing to business users and IT admins.
