Android Open KANG Project a.k.a AOKP update is here for all the Galaxy Nexus devices which have been rooted and installed with CWM recovery image. There are many more awesomest and wowest custom ROMs like Cyanogen, Parandroid etc. have blessed Galaxy Nexus. Before going to the procedure you must keep in mind that the updation will have bugs because the firmware is in its beta stage. Fret not! As the fixing bugs procedure will be hitting soon, so stay connected.
However, this is an unofficial update of AOKP build for your Galaxy Nexus model. Just wait for the JellyBean firmware update and it is a promise from AOKP team that they will bring the latest 4.1 storm for the model.

Pre-Requisites
Rooted and CWM installed in the Samsung Galaxy Nexus
Install ROM MANAGER app to flash the clock work mod recovery in your Galaxy Nexus device.
Computer with internet connection to download file from here
USB cable for connectivity
60% should be the minimum battery power of the phone to avoid shut down of phone during updation.
Back up your phone data such as SMS, MMS, contacts, call logs, multimedia etc
Enable the USB Debugging by tapping on Settings-> Applications-> Development-> tick the USB debugging. Don’t forget to untick USB Debugging after everything is completed.
Steps to upgrade Galaxy Nexus with AOKP Build 40 Firmware
Step 1: Download the Galaxy Nexus AOKP Build 40 Package from the three. Means select according to your carrier only one must be selected.

Step 2: Download Google Apps in the computer.
Step 3: Now connect the device using USB cable to your computer and copy paste the above two files in the internal memory of the phone.
Step 4: Up next open a command prompt in your computer and type the following to enter the device in boot loader mode:
adb reboot bootloader
Step 5: After this select recovery mode as soon as the phone enter into boot loader mode.
Step 6: In this mode select install zip from sd card-> choose zip from sd card to select AOKP build 40 firmware package and select Google Apps which was earlier in the phone.
Step 7: Now the installation is done and select reboot system now for rebooting the device in the normal mode.
Voila! Successfully you have upgraded your Galaxy nexus with the latest AOKP release 40.
