Giada To Launch ARM-Based Android Mini Computers


Giada, a company that makes small desktop computers will be launching two mini PCs with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system and ARM processors. These desktop computers, called the Giada Q10 and Q11, respectively, are already up on the company’s official websites, along with their specifications.

The Giada Q10 has dimensions of 190mm x 149mm x 25.5mm. It runs on an Allwins A10 /ARM® Cortex -A8 processor running at 1GHz. It has onboard 1GB of DDR3 RAM and Mali-400 MP4 (with support for OPEN GL ES2.0) as its graphics processor. Its has 4GB of NAND Flash memory as its storage, but users may opt for more space by using an SD card for up to 32GB of extra storage.

Input/output ports include RJ45, microphone, VGA, COM Port (RX,TX,RTS,CTS), S/PDIF, LVDS (Dual Channel 24Bit, without screen power supply, 5V DC-in, and a 2-in-1 card reader, There is also 1 USB 2.0 port on its front as well as four on its rear. The device also supports RTL8201_CP 100MB/s LAN.

On the other hand, the Q11 has a slightly better set of specifications. It also has a 1GHz Allwins A10 /ARM® Cortex -A8 processor, and 1GB of DDR3 RAM, but its storage capacity is a little larger at 8GB. Memory expansion via an SD card is likewise possible.

As for connectivity, this device supports Wi-Fi IEEE 802.11/b/g/n, Bluetooth, and RTL8201_CP 100MB/s LAN. The available ports are Mini-PCIE, RJ45, 1 x MIC in, USB2.0, VGA, HDMI, COM Port (RX,TX,RTS,CTS), 1 x DC-in Jack (12V), S/PDIF, 2-in-1 Card Reader for SD and MMC, LVDS (Dual Channel 24Bit,12V), and 2.5” SATA.

The Giada website indicates that the devices are “coming soon,” but no specific launch date has been provided. Its price, as well, is still unknown. It is speculated that the desktop computers will make an appearance at CES where Giada might reveal more information about the devices.

Apart from Giada, other companies have taken interest in offering Android desktop computers. One of these is Motorola, which has the CloudBB computer that runs on Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread. Unlike the Giada Android desktop computers, however, the CloudBB, being an all-in-one solution, also features an 18-inch LCD touchscreen, a mouse, and a wireless keyboard.
