Snapseed For Android Is Now On Google Play

Snapseed, the photo-editing app that was once exclusively available for iOS users, has finally arrived on Google Play.

Touted as the Best Mobile Photo App of 2012 by TIPA and last year’s iPad App of the Year, the app by Nik Software is now free to download. It requires a minimum of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, though, so those with devices running older versions of Android are still unable to enjoy the app. The device also supports both phones and tablets as well as photos in JPEG and TIFF file formats. Supported languages include English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Brazilian Portuguese, Japanese, Chinese (Traditional and Simplified), and Arabic.

It would be recalled in September this year, Google acquired NikSoftware and fuelled rumors that the app is on its way to Google Play. Around a month later, Google’s Senior Engineering VP Vic Gundotra posted a photo taken via Snapseed on his Google+ page, hinting at its impending arrival.

The app allows its users to improve photos effortlessly using an option called Auto Correct, which instantly corrects an image’s color and exposure.

For added control, there is a feature called Tune Image to enhance a photo’s color through its White Balance, Contrast, Saturation, and White Balance.

More precise adjustments are possible, as well, through the Selective Adjust feature, which lets users select particular areas to retouch on an image.

Like Instagram, the app also comes with filters, such as Vintage, Grunge, Drama, and other creative enhancements like Tilt-Shift, Details, Center Focus.

Lastly, borders called Organic Frames, and features such as Crop, and Straighten & Rotate help users make their photos more presentable.

The app also encourages sharing on Google+ by adding a feature that makes sharing on the website, as well as other websites, easy.

Snapseed is also available on the App Store for free.
