With the introduction of next version of Apple’s mobile operating system, iOS 6, Apple has marked the departure of Google’s influence in iOS. There’s no more YouTube app and the Google Maps app has been replaced by Apple’s own Apple Maps.
YouTube app has been mainstay of iOS home screen since the launch of first iPhone. This is what Apple replied The Verge when asked about the reason behind the removal of iconic YouTube app:
“Our license to include the YouTube app in iOS has ended, customers can use YouTube in the Safari browser and Google is working on a new YouTube app to be on the App Store.”
With the Youtube app out of the scene, other app developers are launching their own applications in order to fill the void. Also, departure of YouTube app is a great news for developers as they can create their own YouTube app and yet not be a “duplicate iOS functionality”. Google is still offering a Youtube app to download, but it’s restricted only to iPhone users, so iPad users are pretty much helpless as of now, but fret not because there are few great YouTube apps already. One such app is Jasmine.
Jasmine is a YouTube app that is compatible with both, iPhone and iPad. It’s the best option out there for iPad users, and perhaps it’s better than what Google was offering until now. Jasmine is the brainchild of Jason Morrissey, and he is popular for developing the Alien Blue Reddit app for iOS, which happened to be so user friendly that it was declared as the official Reddit client.
Jasmine is capable of doing most of the tasks you would have ever wanted in a YouTube app. Of course it allows you to perform basic tasks such as search/browse for videos, access your playlists, viewing history, favorite videos, and subscriptions. In addition to all those, you can also toggle between night/day mode easily, and control appearance, video playback, parental controls among many other settings.

Jasmine is available for free from the App Store over here. Also, it is iPhone 5 ready, so it has been designed for the new resolution and hence it won’t be letterboxed. This app is perhaps the best solution for iPad users until Google launches its own app.
Lack of Google stuff in iOS 6 has been pretty embarrassing for Apple. Apple has replaced the default mapping app from Google Maps to Apple Maps, which means users are basically forced to switch the app they use. People have been reporting various problems with iOS 6 Apple Maps. For the new mapping app, Apple has teamed up with Tom Tom for their data set, which is a bit weak when compared to what Google is equipped with. After all these criticism, TomTom has responded saying that it just responsible for “foundation” of Apple Maps and has no hands in deciding the final user experience. That’s a reasonable explanation as Apple’s mistakes can cause a loss for TomTom, besides TomTom has its own iOS app which does its job perfectly fine.

There are certainly a lot of details like that to take into consideration. That is a great point to bring up. I offer the thoughts above as general inspiration but clearly there are questions like the one you bring up where the most important thing will be working in honest good faith. I don?t know if best practices have emerged around things like that, but I am sure that your job is clearly identified as a fair game. Both boys and girls feel the impact of just a moment’s pleasure, for the rest of their lives.
